Kenneth T Jackson, Sr: What I'm Thinking While I'm Thinking

My Response to Silence

I thought of this while watching a second hand on a clock.

There's a place in space
A beat between the beats
A moment in between the seconds
The sound between the chords when time stands still
Just before the mark and the hand meets
The distance between East and West
Where one crosses the other
Where one point ends and another point  begins
The thin line between subconcious and sleep
Where thoughts merge, Are you awake? Un-thoughts creep
Can't remember what I was thinking but I was thinking nevertheless
Well it'll come back again... I guess.

I thought I saw... no it couldn't be
It's my imagination
I just thought I saw another side of me
I used to be so sure, confident of my ev'ry stride
Now life has thrown a curve
Missed one...
Money short, future looks grim
Hard to see the silver lining when the sunlight's dim

Where's that chord? Oh yeah...nice

Driving faster, speeding up
Rushing to get back to where I started
Tick... space between... tock
Next second.

Think of Others

Hmmmm. Think of this. While you are working hard to help others achieve or overcome. While you're helping others lift their heads and lending a shoulder to their burdens. God is working behind the scenes on your behalf. And just when you're ready to throw in the towel and quit...God sends...God gives... God opens... God provides... God Is...

Trust God

Faith can move mountains

Faith can heal disease

My God can do anything if you believe

He will be a shelter in your time of storm

He can give you peace of mind and

Keep you from harm

If you have faith in God

Healing Music

I've had the most humbling experience lately. I was told by different individuals, who have no knowledge of each other, that the music that God creates through me... heals. My first thought was; yeah...right. Then I remembered young David in the scriptures.

The young David was called to soothe Saul with music (1 Sam 16:16-23).

16 Let us find a good musician to play the harp whenever the tormenting spirit troubles you. He will play soothing music, and you will soon be well again.”

23 And whenever the tormenting spirit from God troubled Saul, David would play the harp. Then Saul would feel better, and the tormenting spirit would go away.

Isn't this something greater than a minstrel who entertains?

Now I'm wondering how did David's music sound? Considering that Israel was in Africa for more than 400 years, is it possible that his music sounded like ours?

The music of African descent is so powerful that it has influenced and transformed the music of the world. Only the language is different.

So to those of us who play, be mindful of the power within your fingers and play skilfully and reverently. Your music can minister healing and deliverance, or it can perpetuate destructive behaviors.

Hmmmm...what do you think?

Words

Be careful of the words you speak (or write) because afterwards you can't take them back...like it or not they will accomplish your original intent. It's like trying to snatch the music out of the air after it has been played.Sweet and bitter waters can not come out of the same fountain at the same time.

My Miracle, My Testimony

For the ones who want the short version; God answers prayers and I’m still here.

For those who want the full account… here it is. It took about three years to retrieve the entire memory of that day’s activity but it all is crystal clear now.

Wednesday, May 26, 1971. This day will go down in the books as a day God showed himself again mighty to save and deliver. It was during the final exam week at the end of my sophomore year. I had a break before my next test on Thursday. My dad had some painting work and I needed some money so I went to work. After being given our morning work assignment of painting the awnings on the house. Mr. Taylor and I split the work, he on the top rails and me on the bottom. Paint ready and then it happened…my first step in the border grass and I felt something crawl across my foot… SNAKE!!! I’m running up the steps onto the porch with my heart racing. Taylor was having a ball laughing because of the speed I moved to get away from the snake. The snake was a young rattler about 12 to 18 inches long. I guess I startled it as much as it frightened me. It crawled out further in the yard and just waited. Now what do we do? Let’s kill it.

The homeowner was in the house. We told her about the snake and we asked for a hoe or shovel to kill the snake but she was unsure whether she had one and if she did, it was under the house, locked and she had no knowledge of where the key was to unlock the door to the crawl space. So Taylor found a stick.

Now I know better than to mess with a snake especially one that is poisonous but Taylor, a much older man, was feeling mischievous. He decided to “tease” the snake, which was still in the middle of yard, by poking at it’s head and nose. When the snake had enough, it crawled into it’s striking posture head poised to strike the stick. “ Oh, so you mean business huh ?” Taylor said. All kidding came to an end and Taylor killed the snake. The rest of the day, I was teased about the snake and how fast I could move.

Lunchtime was my time to pick up the lunch and I saw a longtime friend and absentee brother from the church who promised to come by the house later that evening so that we could talk. But back at the house, Dad and Taylor were trying to kill a scorpion that was crawling on the warm side of the house.

Whew!! What a day.

Two o’clock. Time to pick up my sister to take to work but first go pay a bill. Now why would anyone punch out the ones on a dollar bill? But that was part of the change given.

Anyway, I stopped by home to tell mom about the snake, the scorpion and Joel coming by later and to tell her that I was going swimming after I drop my sister off at work.

Man was it hot, no A.C.,… following this slow moving dump truck on S. Beltline and getting an early case of road rage but I kept it all in check. Mission accomplished…sister at work. Now to go cool off at the pool.

The park had an indoor heated swimming pool my brother, friends and I frequented especially during the winter months. You always had to sign in your name, age and telephone number before changing to swim. Unexpectedly on this spring day, the sides were opened but the top was still on. I asked the life-guard on duty “ who was there”? “ No one except about fifty cub scouts but they won’t bother you.” “Cool. I only want to cool off anyway. I won’t be in here too long.”

Bored? Ok now for the miracle part. I was swimming alone on my side of the pool, the lifeguard on his duty post and the cub scouts doing their thing and I remember thinking that it was time for me to get out of the pool to go meet Joel when suddenly everything went black. I lost consciousness and when I came to, I was on the bottom of the pool but I lost a lot of air. I forced my way to the top of the water but I drifted too far from the side and didn’t have the strength to swim to the side. I tried to get the lifeguard’s attention but he couldn’t hear me because of the noise of the cub scouts playing. Then the telephone in the pool’s office ranged and the lifeguard left his post to answer the phone. Now I’m really in trouble. Weak and drained, no air and too far away from the sides and I couldn’t get anyone’s attention. I felt the cool water rushing into my body engulfing me, filling everything and I couldn’t prevent it from happening. My final two thoughts before the blackness were: God is not going to let me drown and I called on the name of Jesus. Shudder…Blackness.

The next thing I heard was… “We got him back” as I felt water coming out of my mouth… blackness again.

“Where am I ? ” “ You’re in the  Hospital, you went swimming and almost drowned” replied the nurse. “I didn’t go swimming” was my statement to her. My mind forgot the entire day.

The rest of the account took a while to remember and others told me their part of the as it related to them.

The lifeguard said that when last saw me, I was doing good swimming along well and the scouts were having fun when the telephone ranged. He was only gone for a moment when one of the cub scouts got out of the pool, ran to him and said that a man was lying down in the bottom of the pool. He got me out but could not revive me so he called the ambulance and called the telephone number the I gave when I signed in.

Meanwhile, Joel showed up at the house while the family was getting ready to go where dad was pastoring when the telephone call came concerning me.

Mom called my Grandma  and others and the word went out to all the saints that I was in need of prayer. The unity of the saints was amazing. Folk said that they prayed and prayed fervently and did not stop interceding for me until they received word that I was alright. Others said that they prayed until they got confirmation from the Holy Ghost that I was alright. God answered His people’s prayers.

There is another part to this miracle.

The doctors told my mother that if I live at all, I would have brain damage. But as you can see…I’m still here. I stayed in the hospital for nine days six of them in intensive care but I had three amazing persons close at hand the entire time to comfort me: my mom, my church sister who was a nurse, (I still call her my guardian angel) and Jesus.

I’m still teaching school (35 years now), creating His music, and trying to share the story of the amazing love of God through my testimony.

Be Forever Blessed

Majoring In Minor Things

While I was in college meeting someone for the first time or even now talking to college students, the question always comes up."What's your major?". The idea of this is to get to know people better and learn of their interests and goals. Sometimes they had a minor. Sort of a back-up to pursue but it did not get the full attention of the major.

Now that I'm older and life has taught me a tremendous amount of lessons. I have come to realize that many things that we fret over, worry about, or are overly concerned with really doesn't matter that much when compared to eternity. The only thing that really matters is our love for and relationship with God.

One Elder, whom I love dearly, in one of his sermons told the church to "ask God for a hard thing". In my thinking I told God " Lord, all I want is you".When you have God, you have ev'rything.

Majoring in God and the things of God brings immeasurable dividends. " Eye has not seen nor ear heard of the things that God has in store for us...". Let's stop majoring in minor things.

Quote to Ponder

I got this quote from somewhere and it's blessing me.

"Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket -- keep it
in your own."

The Look of Love

When we were younger, getting into trouble, Mom had a look that said a multitude of words although sometimes she didn't say anything. However, when everything was over, we knew that Mom loved us.

Now I wonder... what look did the Father  give to Jesus just before He said "Father... forgive them for they know not what they do" or the look the Son gave His  Father when He said "It's finished "?.

What kind of look are we getting now??

The Power Of One

Imagine only ONE...

True Love... Savior...Hope...Day...Hour...Minute...Second...Moment...Chance...Point...Test...Heartbeat...

Friend...Song...Sound...Life

Imagine ONE Last Moment To...

 Love Unconditionally... Smile Genuinely...Touch Softly...Live Abundantly...Embrace Warmly...Hear Wholeheartedly...Forgive Completely...Sing Unreservedly...Give Freely...See Single...Feel Only...Share Unlimitedly...Play Skillfully ...Hold Closely...

A Teacher's Thoughts

I am a teacher, trying to help you understand life is filled with trouble; problems on every hand. I am a teacher, feeling the pain of frustration 'cause I know you can't make it riding on the wings of a song.

I don't profess to have all the answers, this I never claimed. I only want to share that which I do know, so our lives won't be in vain.

I am a teacher, please believe me when I say, I'm giving you my all to make our world a better place.

I am your father and mother in a unique sort of way. I understand when no one else seems to. I'm always near when you need me; just call. I'll be there.

I move to help when one of you cries. I'm hurt when one of you fall. I'm so proud when you reach your elusive goals, I feel joy as you stride, head high, across that stage with that credential in your hand.

I am a teacher, a plain and ordinary man. I'll hold the candle through your tunnels of darkness, please let me take your hand. I'm just a teacher, feeling tired, abused, and spent. Just when I'm ready to give this all up, your “Thank you” comes Heaven sent.

I'm just a teacher living just above poverty... a small price to pay if your success comes from what you see in me. I'm just a teacher, my friends don't understand why or how. Let's say that I'm investing in our future...by being here for you now.

A new/old investment scheme

You will never know where you are going if you don’t know where you’ve been.

With so many destructive forces and global challenges facing the children of this society; our future and well-being depends upon our providing opportunities for the growth, development, awareness and guidance of our youth.
We can no longer delay nor procrastinate in preparing and shaping these young minds into becoming a positive, powerful, and motivated force of leaders. One that would counteract the numerous negative influences in our culture and shed that much needed light thereby making a difference.

Take up the torch of teaching.

Invest in our future by being here for our children now.

Once said in times past "My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge…"
Wisdom cries in the street "how long?"
Survivors of the struggle try to justify the present pain.
Was it all in vain?
Do we verify the prophecy of yester years?
"As we progress we regress?"

Thank YOU

I was taught that "thank you" makes room for more so here are my "thank you's".
THANK YOU...
to those who love unconditionally.
to those who give and give even when they don't have much to give.
to those who are lights and torch-bearers.
to those who try to make a difference in this interesting world we live in.
to those who tie the shoes until they learn to do it themselves.
to those who bring adversity to make us stronger.
to those who pray even when they think that their prayers are unheard.
to those who believe in the impossible yet embrace it.
to those who see life and themselves thru the eyes of others.
to parents who parent and nurture their children and the other children in the neighborhood as their own.
to those who share my site, my love of music and vision with others.
to those who feel that "pay-it-forwards" is more than a catch phrase.
to those who speak life.
to those who proved and showed that a song of praise during the "night" can lead to victory in the morning.
to those who uplift others, praise God during their pain, and bless God for counting them worthy to suffer.
to God's fallen soldiers whose prayers are still ringing in God's ears for us.

Now you can add unto the "Thank You" list when you sign the guestbook.

Education

Education…
Utilized properly, it’s the most powerful tool at man’s disposal.
Without it, the brightest star fails to illuminate the gross darkness of a people.
Harness its power; worlds can be forged to stand against any force.
By empowering the youth…
The present is enhanced, the future is secure.

Encourage Yourself

One day on my way to my class
I heard a lot of racket and fuss in the air
It was one goose flying alone squawking and honking
No other geese were in sight
Then I thought of the parable of the geese and
How they encourage the leader to fly onwards and forwards
by honking etc.
But from this solitary goose I got another thought…
The writer penned it correctly
Sometimes you have to encourage yourself.
Even if you must travel alone.

SELF, be encouraged.

Be What You Have Been Chosen To Be

I had to play at a convention some time ago. I heard some amazing talented musicians play that entire week. I mean these folk were dazzling and sizzling on their instruments as if they had sat at the feet of the Master and absorbed all that He had. Then and there I felt totally out of place and uncomfortable to be on the same stage with these other musicians. Matter of fact, I didn’t want anyone to know that I played. However, when it became my time to accompany the group to which I attended the conference, I prayed as I always do before playing, offered my ten fingers, mind and body to God, forgot about the audience and focused on pleasing Him.

When all was finished that night I still felt low and outmatched (some folk know what I’m talking about). It wasn’t a competition yet it felt like one. For weeks I felt inadequate but then God sent someone to lift my spirits. A young man (I don’t know where he came from) told me something that provided lifting.
He said that his mother attended that same conference and gave instructions that if he ever saw me again be sure to tell me “that out of all the musicians she heard that week, my playing was the only one that touched her.” Man talk about a lift. Then God’s spirit pressed another thought in my spirit that I continuously share with ministering people: When God wants a flute, a trumpet will not do no matter how you mute it, it will not do. By that same token, when God wants a trumpet, a flute will not do no matter how you amplify it.
There some people that only you can reach. You have been placed into their lives for a specific purpose, for such a time as this. Therefore be what you have been chosen to be.

On the Bottom Looking Upwards

On the bottom looking upwards. Have you felt so overwhelmed by all the madness around you and folks who say that they would be there ...weren't ? I was fighting frustrations and didn't want to hear the same old tired "words of encouragement". I literally felt like I was below the bottom looking upwards. But then I looked into the "Book of Books" and found a passage that lifts. It states" We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed..." ( II Cor.4:8,9). Man what a lift !!

Then later I got another "song in the night" and had to get up to put it down before it was gone forever.

So folks, how does the minister minister to himself or herself? Find a scripture that you can hang onto. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."(Rom.8:28)  Grab the lifeline that God tossed you... "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us"(Esp.3:20) and hold on for life.   Are you still on the bottom looking up? Well folks I'm on the first floor now riding up, up, up!!!! Be Blessed
